Ty'r Orsaf Reviews

Samantha
We loved our stay in this cottage and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the owner very kindly made us a lovely chocolate cake and homemade marmalade, which we enjoyed during our stay. The cottage is in a fantastic location, close to the Elan Valley and the red kite feeding area. The children loved seeing the trains from the cottage and the adults appreciated the coffee machine! We will definitely return to this property.
Outstanding accommodation, spotlessly clean with first class fixtures and fittings. Sara greeted us & showed us how everything functioned etc. A lovely bonus were the homemade cakes & marmalade. Very peaceful location, not at all disturbed by the few trains passing through. Well deserved of the 5 rating, would highly recommend. Thank you Sara & Ian for a wonderful stay & for the gorgeous anniversary cake which we throughly enjoyed. John & Eileen
Very comfortable stay in beautiful countryside.
Ty'r Orsaf is one of the most comfortable and wellequipped Sykes Cottages we have stayed in so far. It's in a quiet village location just outside of the town of Builth Wells. We found plenty to do in the local area lots of great walks in the Wye Valley, Elan Valley, and both the nearby towns of Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells are worth a day out too. Sara the owner, is the perfect host, and is so friendly and welcoming. She will give you all the information you need about the cottage and if you want ideas of places to visit. Her homemade cakes are amazing too! The train station platform and the few passing trains on this request stop station on the Heart of Wales line behind the house isn't as intrusive as you'd expect. I have already recommended this cottage to my friends and family.
Another wonderful stay in a lovely property. A perfect home with everything you can think of to make your holiday enjoyable. Sara is a perfect host who leaves you feeling very welcome. We will be back
We had a wonderful week staying here. This property is amazing! The facilities were perfect with everything we could wish for and the owner was extremely helpful and friendly. The area was lovely. We went somewhere different every day and found some great places to explore. Absolutely recommend this property and region.

We had a wonderful holiday in this fabulous holiday home. The house is spotlessly clean, comfortable and very easy to relax in with lovely views of the hills at the front or the odd passing train at the back. There are plenty of walks and attractions within easy reach. A bird lovers paradise. Sara the ownerhost is extremely attentive and its obvious she gives 100 of her time making sure things are spot on for individual guests. Plus she makes the most amazing cakes and marmalade!
Christine
Ty'r Orsaf is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed at and is an excellent base for visiting the Elan Valley, Hay on Wye and Brecon amongst other places. Everything necessary has been thought of and all is of very high standard. The homemade cakes provided by the owner were delicious and much appreciated.
We love coming to Saras property because apart from the fact it is lovely in every aspect, we know everything will be perfect when we arrive. Its why we keep coming back and have already booked for next year. We cannot recommend this property highly enough.
Louise

The owners are really kind, welcoming and so helpful. Sara made me some tasty homemade treats which was very thoughtful. The property is in a perfect location for exploring the Brecon Beacons, the Elan Valley and beyond. I was very lucky with the weather, wall to wall sunshine. A fantastic holiday, thank you so much.

The property is perfectly located and ha every amenity needed and more. The owners live next door but never bother you.If there was a problem they would deal with it right away. Although I can't imagine there would be a problem.Incredible peaceful holiday .
Thank you for a very comfortable stay and the homemade cakes and marmalade. Very comfortable house with everything you need.
Property is exceptionally good and well maintained.
Sara met us on arrival and gave us a warm welcome. There was also two delicious cakes waiting for us! The house was spotlessly clean and we instantly felt at home in the very comfortable surroundings. There is plenty of room and everything we needed had been provided. A lot of care and thought has gone into making this an extremely comfortable place to stay. The kitchen equipment was all good quality and looked like new, plenty of crockerycutlery and pans provided also. The bedrooms were spacious with plenty of wardrobe space and drawers. Also a lovely shower room. We loved hearing the trains pass and looking down onto the platform. We had to listen out for them and they didn't disturb us at all. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and would return again when we are in this part of Wales. We spent our week walking as there are lots of good walks in the nearby area .
This is our second stay in this lovely property. Sara is an exceptional host, nothing is too much trouble. The property is spotlessly clean and so well equipped, it really is a home from home. The property is in the perfect location to explore mid Wales and the beautiful Elan Valley. If we come to the area again we wouldnt stay anywhere else!
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. It had everything and more you could need. Sara was a perfect host! It was an amazing location with lots nearby to see and do. We are already planning to go back
Beautiful accommodation, the owner has thought of everything you would need to have a lovely holiday. Homemade cakes and marmalade were a lovely welcome touch.
This was our second time staying here. Can't recommend it enough. Lovely host, well equipped, high quality property. Lacks for nothing. Sarah host is very knowledgeable about the area and can't do enough to make sure your stay is highly enjoyable. We will definitely be returning.
A warm and friendly welcome awaits you here. Sara and Ian put your comfort first in this wonderfully positioned cottage with glorious views of the hills. Sara has thought of everything you could possibly need during your stay right down to the last detail. After a long journey we were welcomed with homemade cake and a tour of this immaculately clean property and then left to relax soak up the peace of this stunningly beautiful area. Would definitely stay again should the opportunity arise. Thankyou Sara, Ian and Ty'r Orsaf.
Richard
Brilliant holiday accommodation, a real home from home. Sara is so welcoming, we wanted for nothing. A wonderful holiday, thank you.
Sara runs an excellent holiday cottage. Everything is perfect. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. We have had the privilege of visiting 4 times and have already booked for next year. I have honestly never stayed in a place where the building and visitors are looked after so well. Whenever I think of our planned stay it makes me smile.
Brenda
Sara is an excellent host. The property has all mod cons.everything was spotless.and so peaceful.we have stayed in many holiday properties, but this house tops them all. My wife and I highly recommend this property.you won't be disappointed. We were greeted with all the things needed for a great holiday.we will definitely be going back.
Victoria
A truly amazing holiday accommodation. Hosts were the best we have ever experienced. For us, this cottage had everything, even the shoe horn to help with walking boots. We definitely plan to return. Thank you.
We had a perfect stay in beautiful accommodation. Sara was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The house is set amongst stunning countryside with good walking from the door. Just thirty seconds away is the spectacular Heart of Wales railway with connections to more lovely places. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with everything you could need. Thanks for a special week.
Our second stay here, its faultless will be back next year
Stephen
Our stay was fantastic! Sara welcomed us on arrival and nothing was too much for her throughout the whole stay. Our daughter has a dairy intolerance and waiting in the kitchen for us was a dairy free cake for us to enjoy, along with an activity pack for the little one. The property is extremely well presented, large and immaculate, situated in beautiful surroundings. The train line behind added an extra bonus for our 5 year old, who loved racing to the window to see when one had arrived don't worry though, you can barely hear more than a faint rumble from them. We can't wait to visit again, thank you so much!
Gerald
The house was lovely, really clean and in a nice quite area .
This is a lovely, interesting building, being an old station on the Heart of Wales railway line. There are great views from the lounge and kitchen due to the living quarters being upstairs and the bedrooms located on the ground floor. The accommodation is about the cleanest we've stayed in. The owner who lives next door was wonderfully helpful and friendly as well as providing us with delicious homemade cake. This property is very well equipped.
We spent a lovely week at Ty'r Orsaf. We went primarily for the Builth Wells Antique Fair but found the cottage a great base to visit the surrounding Mid Wales area. The Elan Valley Dams in particular were only 20 minutes away and great for scenic walks. The cottage's upside down layout was great, as it meant the views over the surrounding countryside were easily seen. It had everything you could need and some, incluing a welcome cake from Sara. And the passing trains were an added bonus as we felt like big kids rushing to the window to watch them stop or trundle by only approx 8 a day so not constant noise. All in all a great week.
Such a beautiful property and fantastic location. Sara is an amazing host and made us feel so welcome. The property is spotlessly clean and really well equipped. It is comfortable and homely but has all the mod cons. The games and books were such a bonus and kept the children amused. It is in a lovely quiet setting but not too far from amenities. I fell in love with the area and will definitely stay here again when we come back.
Claudia
Totally recommend this property, it was recommended to us, and we cannot fault it. Its a beautiful place, clean, super comfortable, Sara is amazing, incredible hostess, so welcoming, thank you. We had a wonderful time, and will definitely go back. You will not be disappointed to stay here, 100 amazing
I cannot recommend this cottage, or its proprietor, highly enough. Fabulous accommodation, wonderful location and a very lovely part of the world to visit. Your welcome is likely to surprise you in a very nice way because it is so rare. I'm not spoiling it by telling you! You should experience it for yourself. Don't let the trains in close proximity put you off. You rarely hear them and forget they are there after the first day. Lovely relaxing holiday. Would absolutely return.
Michelle
Just got back from this beautiful property it's definitely 5 and more! ! the house was immaculate, Sara the owner who lives just next door even took time out of her busy day to come and check everything was satisfactory. Thank you Sara for being a wonderful host , thank you for the beautiful cake that was waiting for us when we arrived. We strongly recommend you visit Ty'r Orsaf which is situated on a railway platform at Builth Road very quiet station We enjoyed watching the trains pass by about 8 a day if the trains don't interest you don't worry you can enjoy the garden which is beautifully kept by Sara herself , we enjoyed watching the red kites fly over ... We thoroughly enjoyed our week visiting Rhayader and Shrewsbury . The photographs do not do this house justice , you will not be disappointed if you book . We are hoping to return . Thank you again Sara for providing a quirky, beautiful holiday home for all to enjoy. Xx
Valerie
We really look forward to returning every year as we are always made very welcome by Sara and Ian . The house is very well equipped with a very comfortable settee and reclining chair and a very comfy bed. Thankyou Sara for the cake it was delicious hopefully we will be returning for a holiday next year
This was our second stay here and we love it. Exceptional property which is impeccably clean. In short it is perfect. Already booked for our next visit.
Very stylish, clean comfortable property. We wanted for nothing. Everything was perfect and we had a very relaxing stay, sad to leave. Sarah owner makes very good cake! Do not be put off by the railway line behind the property you barely hear the trains even with the windows open and they're not that frequent . It's a great base for exploring mid wales which is a beautiful part of the country. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning.
One of the best Sykes Cottages we have stayed in. Fit out and decoration first class and friendly owner
Wonderful property in a lovely part of Wales. The upside down design of having the sitting living and kitchen areas upstairs results in wonderful views towards the hills. Property is furnished to an extremely high standard with extremely comfortable beds. The owners have taken great care to ensure that every possible item that might be needed is there. Property had been cleaned throughout to a very high standard and the friendly and helpful owners who live next door were readily available for help if any had been needed This property is the best one we have hired from Sykes and must be one of the best in the country, and we would strongly recommend it it to others. For individuals with mobility problems, it is probably worth being aware that the staircase is slightly steeper than normal, with higher risers than normal, as well as having more steps than normal, However, there is a sturdy handrail as well as a cloakroom upstairs.
