The Cottage at Lower Dolgenau Reviews

This cottage is so cozy and homely. Excellent location for exploring mid Wales and England. Very helpful owner who assured us she was at the end of the phone if we needed her. Loved it.
Cameron
Gorgeous cottage, loved our stay there
Amazing property and surroundings! Firstly, Ruth the property owner was an absolute delight, she was so welcoming, considerate and made sure everything was as it should, a genuinely lovely lady. The property was enchanting, everything we hoped it would be, the kitchen was chockablock with everything you could possible need from a cafetiere, slowcooker to a steel to sharpen knives, all amenities were fantastic, the master bed we only used this room was so comfortable and the room especially cosy. The views were breathtaking from every angle, the garden lush and beautiful and the sheep was a delight sitting on the bench outside the front door having a cup of tea with first thing in the morning please note that this path is also used by the neighbours to gain entry to the adjacent cottage. The only thing that wasn't 1010 was that it is listed as dog friendly, I would rather say that dogs are accepted on the property, my comment is due to the fact that dogs are only allowed in the kitchen and lounge, not upstairs nor in the bedrooms or on the furniture, I am sure this is fine for many pet owners, but our 2 small dogs have always been allowed to sleep next to us on the sofa, you are not allowed to exercise your dogs in the garden, and the garden is not secure, so the dogs can get easily get onto the road as we unfortunately found out. We would like to say a huge thank you to Ruth for making my 60th birthday week away so memorable for the for the four of us.
Beautiful fairytale cottage. The childrens bedroom reminded me of something out of an Enid Blyton story.Stunning views. Ruth very accommodating with our arrival time and key collection. Would recommend anyone to go and stay.

A beautifully situated cottage and a wonderful owner.

A treasure of a cottage. Thank you so so much our lovely 'mystery' landlady. Breathtaking location. Charming 17th century cottage. Incredible interior. Mesmerising atmosphere inside. Comfortable, clean, all modern amenities. Very friendly and kind landlady.
Pros This property is a character property and is quite quirky. The location is remote and it is very peaceful. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and you get a sense of being one with the environment. Ruth the owner is very kind and it was lovely to meet her. Cons The place was filthy. I know others have written before about this so thought it may have improved but sadly not. We had to wash every item before using it and there were dust and webs were everywhere and yes, spiders do remake their webs but not with 6 of dust on them! The duvet on the landing bed is covered in stains which we discovered when stripping the bed, and the sofas and cushions were groaning. Thankfully we could cover everything up with throws we took for the dogs. This property would have been really nice if it had been clean. I feel sad for Ruth but she really needs to get on top of her cleaners. The place needs a deep clean and declutter.
The cottage was lovely, very cosy and it a great location. The cottage had lots of charm including a real wood fire and the views across the valley were gorgeous. The location is ideal for long walks in the beautiful countryside. Ruth was lovely and dropped in to say hello on our first day and it was great to hear about the cottage and its history. Thank you for a lovely stay.
We had a lovely stay it is very vintage cottage, although the furniture wasn't comfortable to sit on and could do with some updating. The cottage was well equipped for a Christmas stay and the open fire was very nice. The views were amazing. Ruth was a very helpful and very nice lady.
Malcolm
An absolutely lovely cottage withe owners personal touches in every room
Claire
A lovely cottage with original features. The kitchen had everything you could ask. The cottage was very clean and a good base to go exploring from
We had a lovely stay just were not expecting such low ceilings and doorways. We are all tall so there were a number of bumped heads and uneven stairs up to top level was not great for elderly people. But it's is a beautiful spot, so relaxing to sit outside and enjoy the view. Our host was very friendly and accommodating.
The property owner is very freindly and really loves the place. The cottage has the most wonderfull views imaginable from the windows, straight out the front door theres green hills filled with sheep who you get within 4 m of front door, nearest town 15 minute drive lots to do walking wise with forest and local lead mine main shops like tesco aldi lidl 25 mins away in Newtown, beach 1 hour away and aberystwyth 1 hour away well worth staying here, cant wait to come back in the winter
Property listing did not make it clear that we would be sharing the garden with the neighbouring cottage and have guests from there walking past our front door, meaning we had no privacy. House does not have an information pack so finding out the wifi password and how to work the cooker were by trial and error.
We absolutely loved it. My dream farmhouse kitchen so spent most of the time in there with family during the day. Lovely cosy sitting room with a real fire for the evening. The garden was lovely with flowering trees all over the cottage and garden. Amazing quiet countryside position. Facilities were excellent with a washing machine and dish washer. I would highly recommend this place and we will be returning
The cottage was absolutely stunning the garden, views everything was just breath taking. If you need a quiet place to reset away from the city this is the perfect place for it. And, Ruth she was amazing although she couldn't meet us at the cottage she called us checked everything was gd. All in all amazing place and amazing host. Would love to go back gain nxt springsummer.
We were unaware that there was a holiday cottage next door which should have been mentioned. In fact we have used your company many times and it is noticeable that clever photography sometimes covers up things like a main road position or the description omits something. We did enjoy our holiday and Ruth was very helpful
Elizabeth
The cottage is wonderful we really enjoyed our time there. Ruth was lovely, meeting us on time and showing us round. The room we spent the most time in was the kitchen. It's very well equipped and met all our needs. Great for playing cards and games at the table. The lounge is small and fine for 4 people. Not sure 6 or 7 adults would manage in it though. Bedrooms and bathrooms great. The only problem we had was that both bedrooms have skylights with no blinds or coverings. In the early hours we resorted to using tshirts over our heads to enable sleep until a more reasonable hour. The stream is across a field that dogs can't go in. It's not next to the cottage. We wouldn't class the property as isolated as it's adjacent to another holiday cottage that Ruth owns. The guests from the other cottage had to access their property going past ours. The best parts of the cottage are the views and the open fire. Would definitely rebook to stay again.
Edward
We loved the cottage. Every room is full of character, beautifully furnished and yet with all the mod cons needed for a very comfortable and restful stay. It was like being transported to an oasis of peace and was the perfect place to be refreshed and recharged. Thank you! The Evans family
Justine
Ruth the owner of the cottage is just adorable, I loved her from the minute I spoke on the phone with her. Her cottages are unique old country cottages in the middle of farmland and have everything you need, apart from candles when there was a power cut. I would go again definitely and would recommend the place. We had a thoroughly enjoyable family holiday. Thank you
