Lovely little place. We got lost getting there the gentleman I spoke to gave us clear directions and later a lady phoned to check we were OK. The hut is in a beautiful setting. It rained the next day but it didn't matter as we were warm and cosy with everything we needed in side. Wonderful find peace and quiet. We are hoping to book again for later in the year.

Delightful shepherd's hut in the midWales countryside. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and though it is small it is a hut, after all! it perfectly fitted our needs because we planned to be out with friends discovering the local area. With a peaceful setting, overlooking hills and fields, we very much enjoyed staying here.

Glamping is definitely the way forward! When my daughter and I saw the weather forecast for the second week of the Easter hols, it was clear pitching a tent was not a good idea, so started the search for a more weather friendly alternative. We love Sykes for a cosy cottage holiday, and couldn't believe the amount of different types of accommodation that they actually have for offer, we were spoilt for choice! After much discussion we settled for this hut and what an absolute treat! The hut was faultless, the owners had thought of everything to bring the outside in whilst still remaining warm and dry. Each window offered a different stunning view of the landscape and the double doors were a well thought out idea by the owners. We loved our little shepherds hut experience, there are gorgeous walks from the doorstep lots of scenery to be enjoyed and most importantly the bed was plenty big enough for me and my teenage daughter to happily share.

This is our third visit to Claerwen and the next one is booked. Its in an ideal location close to the town of Rhayader, the Elan Valley and the stunning Gilfach nature reserve. The shepherds hut is well equipped the fridge is small but does have a freezer box for a couple of ice bricks and sits in the middle of beautiful and very peaceful countryside. Its easily accessible and the hosts, Janet and Colin, are friendly and helpful.

I have to say this was one of the best places I've been so far for a short break and I do travel a lot. . I felt blessed every time I'd look outside, the view is unreal. Having breakfast while watching the cows watching us is a unique experience. It didn't bother us that Internet connection wasn't the greatest but if I could point out one negative aspect is the fact that warm water for showers doesn't last long however I would definitely book again for the exact same hut. 10 out of 10 I felt really relaxed and blessed. Another super stay for us but I do have a couple of suggestions. We have booked and stayed several times and feel the hut would benefit from having a compact handheld hoover as I did notice the floor had some crumbshairs in the corners. Also we felt the mattress was not as comfy as it had been on previous stays so may need updatingturning. My suggestions are in no way meant to be negative but merely just my opinion and neither will deter us from booking our next stay

Claerwen is situated in a beautiful part of Wales. Not far from Elan valley, Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells lake. The views from the windows are lovely. Hills, fields, sheep, cows. Very quiet and relaxing. The Shepherds hut is comfortable and has everything you need for a break.

The cabin was beautiful, spotless, and so cozy. Everything was well thought out, from the comfortable furnishings to the peaceful surroundings. The location was perfect for a relaxing getaway, with plenty of charm and privacy. We truly enjoyed our stay and would happily return again!

Stunning location with a great base for exploring midWales, well equipped and very clean, exactly as listed, nice and peaceful, loved my stay. Really easy contactless check in, didn't have to speak to anyone. Only minor gripe would be for a few more BBQing implements, namely a brush to clean inbetween uses and something to help get the hot ashes out.

Claerwen sits in a very beautiful, peaceful location but is easy to get to and not far from food shops and services heading into Rhayader. It was our second visit and we really appreciated the new decking which opens the hut out onto a great sitting area where we could sit and watch the wildlife. There is plenty of storage space under the comfortable bed. We were in easy contact with the owners if needed. A really lovely place for a short break.

I absolutely loved my week staying at Claerwen, it was so comfy and cosy. The view was amazing and it was so peaceful and quiet. The hut felt like it was completely in the middle of nowhere but within 30 mins you could be in Rhyader, Builth Wells or Llandrindod Wells. There is also a petrol station with a well stocked shop just 10 mins away. I visited Elan village as well as spending the day up at Claerwyn Reservoir both were great days out and again not far from to go. The bird live was wonderful, I saw woodpeckers, kites, buzzards, goldfinches and swifts from the hut and also saw a couple of redstarts when in the Elan valley. The hut is on a sheep farm so plenty of sheep to see as well as a couple of highland cows. The facilities were good and as you would expect from a small compact space, wifi was brilliant and the bed was really comfortable. For information the fridge is 40L in size, useful to know in advance if bring food with you. I did a click and collect at Tescos in Llandrindod Wells on my arrival journey. Finally I have to say a huge thank you to Alun, the point of contact for the owners. Despite being a very busy farmer he always replied to my questions, and was very approachable and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. As you may be able to tell, I would fully recommend Claerwyn and Elan to anyone wanting to get away from it all, in a cosy shepherds hut to enjoy the peace and quiet of the beautiful Welsh countryside. I cant wait to go back.

Amazing as always, we love coming back every year. Only negative this year was the loud thumping music in the distance until late for 4 nights, this does not reflect on the owners or the accommodation as it was coming from further afield but became annoying as we are used to the fact there is so little noise

The place was lovely, me and my puppy enjoyed our stay and we took advantage of the silence and the nature around us. I can't recommend this enough if you need to recharge your batteries and want to get away from the city for a while. I only spent 3 nights here but I wish I stayed for longer. Definitely thinking of rebooking

We absolutely loved our weekend away staying here. Amazing location and the hut was great, had everything you need in it, very clean and just generally a really nice feel to it. The communication from the owners was great too and gave us very helpful directions to find it. We will definitely be returning!

This was a most enjoyable stay. The Shepherds Hut was intimate but ideal for one person with all the facilities one could need, clean and well maintained, and in a beautiful situation. Great to wake up to the sound of red kites mewing in a nearby tree!

Absolutely perfect for a relaxing getaway, we have had the most comfortable and lovely stay, thank you so much. Beautiful shepherds hut and the views were unbelievable. Perfect for local walks right from the front door but watch out for OS footpaths! The owner was super friendly, left us welsh cakes and milk which was so kind. Extremely clean, literally spotless. The owner also gave us some extra time to check out on our last morning which was greatly appreciated. Will be telling all our friends about this beautiful property, thank you so much for a lovely stay! We hope to come back soon.

Lovely stay, new windows and doors look good. First time we have stayed whilst both huts in use and fence between worked well for the dogs. We will be back again

Myself and my dog have just spent the past week here and what a week it has been. This hut is superb! The photos dont do it justice. All as described, very clean and had everything you need for a relaxing break. Very warm and cosy with a fantastic shower. Perfect garden with a breath taking view. Nice local walks from the farm and not far to Elan Valley. Will definitely be booking again.

Our stay at Claerwen was faultless. The Sheperd Hut was amazing. It was extremely clean & well fitted out. The bed was comfortable and the linen & towels were fresh & clean. Plenty of hot water & a good shower. The area is lovely, lots of walking, biking, close to the coast. Nearby Rhayader is a lively shopping town with several places to eat. The hut its self is situated down a farm track away from any roads & noise. There are 2 huts which could be booked together for a group of 4. They are however situated such to give privacy. There are an abundance of Red Kite soaring through the skies overhead, amazing to watch. The owners made contact with key details and offered a later check out. I did feel that they were approachable if we had had a problem. This was an excellent 3 night stay & we hope to go back.

Well what can I say. ....... absolutely fantastic. We went away for a few days to recharge our batteries. This was exactly as described. Added comfort to the pictures is that the doors are now plastic and not wooden. We went with our dog and had plenty of room. He loved it completely fenced off also loved watching the interaction between him and our neighbours the sheep. Lovely owners see them of a morning feeding the sheep. Other than that left to own devices. Would highly recommend. Thank you will be back soon.

Dee, Bruce the dog and I absolutely loved our 3 night stay over the Easter bank holiday weekend. Milk and Welsh cakes on arrival were a very welcome addition. The hut was immaculate, well equipped and very cosy and the bed was incredibly comfortable. It has a completely enclosed garden, a previous review says its joint with the other hut but they must have since put a fence up between. This is very handy when you have a very friendly but overly inquisitive dog and meant we could relax knowing he wasnt driving anyone bonkers. We loved sitting outside watching the sheep, cows and the Red Kites up ahead it was so beautiful and peaceful. We saw the farmer and family who came for a chat and they were so friendly. We enjoyed the drive from Elan Valley to Devils Bridge over the mountain pass rated by the AA as one of the top 10 scenic drives in the world did the devils bridge walk and then drove on to beautiful Borth beach. Another day we walked around the Elan Reservoirs and took in the impressive dams. We also spent an afternoon at the Red Kite centre which was amazing. We were very sad to leave and will most certainly visit again.

My second stay at the Shepards hut and enjoyed it just as much as the first. Thank you for such a lovely relaxing place to stay!

AMAZING. ... The property was perfect in every way, We were given precise directions by the owners which enabled us to find the hut without any problems at all. On arrival we were met with the most serene views coupled with sheer silence!! The hut itself was immaculately clean with crisp white bedding and the comfiest bed. The hut had everything we would need for a relaxing stay and did not disappoint. We will most definitely be returning

Wow, can not recommend this shepherds hut enough. Amazing views, so quiet and perfect for relaxing. Both huts now fenced off so any concerns of dogs wandering not an issue. We will be back

We stayed here after a few days camping in the Gowerthe weather had turned wet and windy and the campsite was very busy. We booked at short notice and the shepherds hut provided the perfect place to recharge our batteries. The owners were accommodating in getting the hut ready at short notice and Sykes were great at arranging this for us. We had a great couple of daysthe hut was clean and had everything we needed for a peaceful respite. The view was stunning. We visited the red kite feeding centre which was nearby and is not to be missedlots of walks nearby as well. Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend this property.

The Claerwen shepherd's hut was a lovely place to stay for our mid week getaway. Very comfortable, clean, with everything you need to make it feel like home. I loved the underfloor heating at night when it got a little chilly. Waking up to the views of the hills, having breakfast outside in the sun and listening to the lambs bleating. The peace and quiet in this area is divine. At night the area is a dark sky area so we had the pleasure of a clear starry sky and a full moon. All that was missing was a little fire pit. Definitely recommend a stay here and I hope to stay again sometime soon.

I really enjoyed staying in the shepherd's hut Claerwen. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Just what I needed. The hut was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The owners kindly left milk, welsh cakes and a bottle of sparkling soft drink for me on arrival, which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. The scenery outside the hut and nearby was stunning.

The only problem with the Claerwen hut is that the bedroom window let a big draught through, but apart from that it was comfy and ideal for me and my dog, thank you, Jim.
