Penlone Cottage Reviews

Justin
Wonderful stay in this idyllic cottage. Great peaceful location but close enough to access the facilities at Rhayader which were easily within walking distance. The cottage was exceptionally clean and provided everything needed for a break away. Being lucky with the weather, bar one day, also helped!
A perfect cottage in an excellent location. This is the third time that we have stayed and hope it will not be the last. Bryan Mills

Perfect setting for walking and those who love the peace and quiet of the countryside. Very comfortable old cottage that has retained its character and with todays modern comforts and facilities i.e beds , furniture kitchen and bathrooms. We would certainly recommend and would like to visit again. Very helpful owner, thank you very much.
The welcome pack was very thoughtful and much appreciated. The cottage was very cosy and comfortable, the beds are the best I've ever slept in. I would recommend Penlone cottage to anyone. Thank you for a lovely week in your beautiful cottage.
Een geweldig mooie cottage, heel goed uitgerust, alles was er en het is een schitterende omgeving, heerlijk om te wandelen. Zullen zeker teruggaan. Aanbevolen!!!!
Penlone is perfectly situated if you are looking for peace but near a town. The cottage is comfortable and has more or less everything you would need for your stay. The bed and sofas are both comfortable and the cleanliness of the cottage cannot be faulted. The only improvements I could think of is an airer or more clothes hooks to dry wet gear, I was lucky and only had one wet day, but I could see drying walking gear would be challenging if I had not been so fortunate. The road down to the cottage is narrow but has adequate passing places should you meet another car, I did not however go the route suggested by the owner and was glad I hadnt as this is much narrower and very overgrown , having a new car I would have been very concerned about my cars paintwork as the hedges and verge has a lot of briars and hedgetree branches. But if you have a car that would cope with these then it is the shorter , and quieter option. I found parking my car in the drive easy . All in all a great stay, and I would like to return one day.
NIce cosy and peaceful tea coffee and milk was perfect. Beds comfortable and a clean presentable property would definitely book again all in all a lovely place and stay
Lovely spacious cottage in the heart of the Elan Valley. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
A very nice place to stay.

If you want peace and quiet in a truly rural setting, this is certainly one to consider. There is very occasional traffic to neighbouring premises but for the majority of the time it's birdsong or sheep bleating. There is a long drive to the cottage and it pays to be aware of any passing places along the way. Having said that all the passengers enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. The cottage was at some point in its history two cottages and the layout has made good use of this. The lounge dining room are in fact one but the space is divided by what was the dividing wall of the two cottages which gives a feeling of separate and cosy rooms. The bathroom upstairs is beautiful, large, light and airy. Both showers work well with adequate amounts of hot water The furniture is comfortable as are the beds. All the appliances worked well. The lane past the cottage is quite narrow and if you have a large vehicle it takes a bit of skill to park either on the drive or in the allocated space opposite. It's easy by day 3! There is just one negative there is no barbecue, you need to provide your own instant one. Though in fairness the owner did provide one for us The host is very friendly and helpful . In conclusion if asked would I go back then I would say yes.
What a wonderful few days we spent at Penlone Cottage over Christmas. It is a beautiful, characterful cottage. It was cosy and welcoming. The cottage felt spacious, with plenty of room for four guests. Not only was this a wonderful home to stay in, the area it is situated in is incredibly special. We were able to watch hundreds and I am not exaggerating of red kites flying over head. The sky was full of them. It was truly magical. Thank you for a fabulous stay.
This place is actually bigger and better than it looks in the pictures, very cosy and atmospheric. The location is wonderful for the Elan Valley and all the stupendous lakes and dams 15 minutes away. We didn't want to come home...
Penlone is a lovely cottage in a great location down a country lane . We've used Sykes Holidays now for many years, but this cottage is the best we've stayed in by far. Immaculate throughout & very spacious & well equipped. Lovely comfy beds, made for a great nights sleep .Plenty of space in the garage to store our bikes there were 4 of us .Lots or walks & cycle trails directly from the door so no need to use the cars. Great little pub about 1 mile away The Triangle very friendly & good food. 5 Star . Sue Trevor Jane & Geoff
Absolutely loved Penlone Cottage. Perfect in every way and utterly stunning location. Cozy, immaculately clean and home from home comforts. Will definitely be back there if the rain ever stops!!!
This is the second time that we have stayed at Penlone cottage. Everything was perfect and the gifts of food and were were appreciated. Bryan Mills
Lovely cottage with a well equipped kitchen on the edge of the Elan valley. Woodpecker, squirrel and several bird species frequently on the bird feeders adjacent to the kitchen windows. Narrow lanes leading tofrom cottage. There is WiFi in the cottage.
A lovely cottage full of character and with nice views. A lot of thought has gone into making it a very good and well equipped holiday home. Thank you for sharing it and also for leaving food in the hanging feeders, we especially enjoyed watching the variety of birds coming in to use them.

Had a wonderful week at Penlone Cottage the cottage is very clean and very well equipped. On arrival the hosts had left us milk, welsh cakes and two small bottles of wine, thank you. We loved watching the bird life around the cottage and had many different species visiting the feeding station on the property bring your own food for them though It is situated down a quiet lane adjacent to a horse trekking centre, Red Kites can also be seen across the fields by the cottage. It is within easy walking distance of Rhayader and the Caban Coch dam and visitor centre and also to the Red Kite feeding centre at Grigin Farm about 40 minute walk away which is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon watching the Red Kites. A little further afield are the other Elan valley dams which are worth visiting. If you like cycling there are two cycle routes 8 &81 which are well maintained. A bonus for us was that it is in a Dark sky area which gave us a superb view of the stars without light pollution. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property for a holiday.
A fantastic cottage in the middle of the countryside nut not far from the town. There is a lovely footpath that takes you to the local small town. The cottage was clean and tidy, has everything you need and has lots of character. I would definitely rent this cottage again!
The perfect cottage in the most amazing location stunning
What a beautiful cottage in a spectacular stretch of Elan Valley. The views around are really wonderful and we really enjoyed exploring the valley and dams that are part of its history. Everything was as described and we were lucky to have mostly great weather, but even on the rainy day we enjoyed the little summer house. Very dog friendly, garden quite safe and kitchen well equipped even an air fryer!. Locally the pubs and shops are great, our favourite was The Triangle but all were again dog friendly. Thank you for a lovely week !
Lovely cottage, nice touch with the Welsh cakes and wine. We had a very busy time, and it was great to come back and relax. Wonderful views from the cottage. The beds were very comfortable, and after long days walking, we slept like logs. Just lovely.
The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything you can think of. Really close to Rhayader and Elan valley but in a lovely quiet position.
Lovely cottage, had a good time but just a couple of niggles. It was difficult to find when we first arrived. We found the directions confusing. And we arrived on a chilly evening and it was cold in the house. No heating on, and the only oven was a Rayburn which was turned off and took ages to heat up. The log burner was nice though!
Philip
Very comfortable and warm. Enjoyed quirky feel of Penlone and very rural location. Helpful owner.
Lovely cottage in a great location. Thank you for the welcome pack. Great holiday we will be returning.
We had a wonderful stay at Penlone Cottage , the location was perfect for exploring the beautiful Elan Valley. The cottage itself was warm, comfortable, very well equipped and so cosy with the log burner. We certainly hope to return. Thank you so much. Tina Knight
Alistair
Lovely stay at this beautiful cottage. Very comfy accommodation, It is situated in wonderful countryside with exceptional walks straight from the door. A great location for a relaxing break. Our only regret was not being able to light the fire as it was not cold enough!
Kathryn
A lovely property ideally situated to explore the Elan valley with easy and quick access to the cycle trail straight from the door. The owner was very quick to respond when a bigger teapot was requested and again when the smoke alarm needed a new battery. The only quibble was that the kitchen could have been a little better equipped but having read previous reviews we had taken a few of our own items with us. A better vegetable knife would have been particularly appreciated. The welcome pack was a nice gesture.
We loved our week at Penlone Cottage in it's rural location, highlights were the hare and bullfinch we saw, the quiet and the starry night skies. We had beautiful weather. The Triangle Inn being in walking distance was great too oh and the circuit walk from the cottage!! Perfect, thank you.
Philip
We really enjoyed our stay at Penlone cottage. It was very clean and comfortable with lovely views from the first floor windows. Excellent area for walking right from the cottage door. Not too far to walk to the many local pubs in Rhayader, all of which were dog friendly about 30mins using the footpaths. Would definitely recommend a stay at this cottage.
Petina
We have had another wonderful, peaceful stay at this beautiful character cottage. It has everything you need, including a very comfortable bed. We saw a big variety of birds at the feeder. The lambs were playing in the field that we could watch from the lounge window. In bed we could watch the red kites flying by through the skylight. A short distance away are lots of good walks for our jack Russell and ourselves. We will definitely be planning to return for the 4th time. The owner is lovely.
Petina
We have had a wonderful stay at Penlone cottage. The cottage was spotless, warm and extremely comfortable. All facilities were excellent and we would recommend this property to anyone, especially if they like home comforts and wildlife. This was our second visit with our jack Russell and we would be very happy to return again.
Excellent location for Elan valley, very peaceful and relaxing. Owner very helpful. Kitchen could be a bit better equipped, eg paring knife, better quality pans etc. Great to have a dishwasher but that requires some things in bigger numbers, eg small spoons. Some minor extras would be good, eg shelf or soap dish in shower.
Timothy
The cottage is every thing you could want we felt at home straight away the ... The cottage is every thing you could want we felt at home straight away the location is just amazing as a wildlife and photography lover could ask for no more,,,my only tip would be take a lot of supplies with you food etc would not hesitate to go back ten out of ten
The cottage was perfect. It had everything we could wish for. We really enjoyed sitting in the garden room surrounded by the horses on the other side of the fence. We found lots to do including visiting the Elan valley quite spectacular! I would certainly recommend this property.
Penlone cottage is in a lovely quiet area, the perfect place to be if you want to relax, when we arrived it was spotlessly clean & tidy, thank you for our little surprise of wine, Welsh cakes & bottled water they all went down nicely. I would highly recommend Penlone cottage to anyone, it's not far from the Dams or the village if you fancy a walk or a trip by car.
Everything was perfect with the property. We had a wonderful week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Definitely intend to return. Bryan Mills
Penlone Cottage is a beautiful cottage to stay in. Everything you need is provided at the cottage, the cottage is kept very clean and tidy. Its obvious that extra effort is made to make holiday makers feel comfortable. We hope to return to the cottage again one day. The surrounding area is also amazing, breathtaking scenery! Well done to all involved with Penlone Cottage!
An extremely lovely property, just as describe, we had such a lovely break. However we are a little sad we wont be able to go again because of the dog policy being changed from allowed to not allowed .
