Glanyrafon Bungalow Reviews

This is my third time staying here,I love the peaceful location, it's great for exploring. The bungalow is well equipped, comfortable, warm and clean. One small bugbear is the tv system but everything else is great.
Debbie
Perfect location This was a rebooking as we loved it so much the first time. The accommodation is spacious, tranquil, and very private a great base for exploring. The beds were clean and comfortable, and overall, it really feels like a home away from home. Since my last visit, there have been some lovely improvements. The new hot tub is fantastic, the local information leaflets are really handy, and even the simple addition of towel rails makes a big difference. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you might need, though a few items like the knives could do with replacing. The only thing missing was a small welcome pack most places provide a little bread, milk, or similar, which is always a nice touch. That said, this remains my favourite place to stay, and Id happily come back again and again. Highly recommended!
This is a beautiful place to stay peaceful, with so much to offer. It was clean, warm, and incredibly welcoming. We relaxed in the hot tub, played games at the table, and truly enjoyed the entire experience. As with any home, there were a few minor signs of wear, but overall it was exceptionally clean and well cared for. The hosts were easy to reach, and the welcome pack included flyers for a variety of local activities, which helped us plan our outings. Weve already recommended this place to friends and definitely plan to return in the future. Thank you so much for having us!
This property has so much potential, the kitchen is lovely the beds were comfortable the dogs were happy in the enclosed garden, we enjoyed using the games room. However, the amount of flies was just impossible, we were staying on farmland in warm weather so expect flies you might say, but I believe at least a fly zapper in the kitchen was needed and fly paper else where. We were innundated with them and went through numerous cans of fly spray. Flies in these numbers affect both cleanliness and comfort. It was horrible. Secondly the hot tub is just an outside communal bath, only 2 jets worked it is old and broken and not worth the effort of getting into. Plus the lid has no lifting mechanism which makes life difficult. Thirdly the picnic bench and table in the garden is broken and dangerous with planks lifting and the whole thing swaying and there are visible broken supports, it's not acceptable. This is listed as a holiday home with a hot tub this is a total misrepresentation, it really is a waste of space. There are no instructions re operating the TV which I would have found useful. The tiled flooring looks beautiful in the kitchen and hall ways but once it's wet it's leathal, rubber runner mats would no go amiss. We will not be returning to this bungalow or any other belonging to Oakwood Lodges as they clearly allow their properties to get into a state of disrepair. We will certainly not be recommending them either. I have emailed oakwood lodges with regards my observations and have not so much as recieved an acknowledgement from them.

The property is in a lovely quiet area, with wonderful views. Beds were comfortable and property was spacious and clean. However, no shelf on fridge door to put open liquids such as milk. A very large scratch across the cooker hob which we nearly cut our fingers on when wiping down. We informed the owner who replied thanks for letting I'm know no apologises etc. Upon leaving when we stripped the bedding, noticed that the middle bedroom had very heavily yellow stain on mattress protected and pillow. Also the jets were still not working in the hot tub I have read about this in a previous review but nothing been done. It's such a shame as this is such a lovely area and place to stay in.
Would have been nice to have a welcome pack and basic condiments. Could have done with a bigger fridge freezer apart from this the bungalow is very nice and warm beds are comfy. The place was a lot bigger than we thought and the enclosed garden was great for the dogs communication was good with the owners if we had a problem they would reply straight away would definitely go back.the town is only mins away and had everything we needed the butchers had the nicest meat we have had .
Lindsay
Hot tub area could be better as grass very muddy, also needs some lighting around it
Second visit here, love the area and the peace and quiet. The bungalow and hot tub are perfect for my son and I, the bungalow is well equipped, clean and comfortable and a perfect location for exploring.
Nathan
This is a real gem of a place, in my opinion the photos don't do it justice at all, it's huge! It's in a perfect location, the view from the garden is outstanding, nothing surrounding you, just peace and quiet. The fact that the garden is securely enclosed was a real bonus. The bungalow is well equipped and comfortable, and literally 1520 mins away from Elan Valley Trail and Garreg Ddu Reservoir beautiful views and walks. Will 100 be back in the future, and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful retreat with their pets.
After the manager messaged us it still took all of the first evening to get the TV working. The TV plug was hanging off the wall with wires everywhere. A lot of the crockery was chipped. It There was no instructions to TV, cooker and oven or any other appliance.we have been with Sykes a number of times and have not had any complaints before. This didn't seem to come up to their usual standard. There was no welcoming feel when we arrived.
We had a great stay at Glanyrafon bungalow, although the cottage is a little tired in places. The veiws and location more than make up for this. Left completely alone to our own privacy was priceless for the remote break we needed. The nearest town is around 10 minutes drive away and has everything you need including an amazing butchers and Morgan's bistro for a lovely breakfast. We will definitely be returning to this property.
Peace and quiet just like the Dr ordered . Sheep fields all around bungalow and wild birds for company
Glynis
Very spacious, warm and comfortable bungalow in a lovely quiet rural location which we enjoyed. We were able to walk our dog up the lane outside and the nearby Gilfach Nature Reserve also had plenty of walks . The bungalow was surrounded by fields of sheep and baby lambs so don't be surprised if you see a few escapees in the lane outside! Rhayader market town is only about 3 miles away where you can stock up on provisions. The town also has some lovely walks, several by the river Wye. We love this area especially the beautiful Elan Valley which was within easy driving distance from the bungalow.
We absolutely love the bungalow, it ticks all the boxes for us, from its remote location, to the facilities it offers, from enjoying the pool room to having a leisurely soak in the hot tub, even in January. We book this particular venue every year and have already booked for 2025. I would buy this property if it ever came up for sale, we already affectionately call it our 2nd home
Gillian
Loved our 2 week break at this property. It is in a wonderful setting, total peace and quiet. The property was spotlessly clean. The furniture is a bit tired and most of the recliner mechanics dont work. Some of the crockery needs replacing due to chips and scratches. The hot tub was a welcome addition even though again it could do with a bit of attention, no doubt these things are due to the amount of use they get and not everyone being as respectful as they should be. It would have been useful to have some information regarding local shops and supermarkets, or an option to order a basic starter pack of bread, milk, eggs due to the remoteness of the property and the late check in time, especially in the winter months when it gets very dark very quickly. It would also have helped to know what day the refuse was collected especially for a two week stay as the bin isn't very big. That being said it didn't stop us having a lovely time.
Lovely rural and quiet location with amazing views. Locals were very friendly. The nearby Elan valley was great to visit with amazing Dams in a short drive. Very surprised how quiet it was, especially being half term. Bungalow was very spacious and clean. Games room was a bonus the kids, especially visiting Wales in Autumn. Bungalow had everything we needed but at the same time had a simplicity that I like. Shower was fab, very powerful and bonus of a bath which my daughter loves. Managed to get in the hot tub a couple of times between storms! Got a bit muddy around the hot tub which made it quite messy and slippery, especially when trying to remove and replace the cover. Just a minor niggle. Smart tv so able to watch Netflix on those cold rainy eves. Plenty of spacious parking by the door. Great for packing and unpacking car in harsh weather. My little dog loved watching the sheep. Few Red Kites flying over, even a couple of Jets. We didnt visit for the walks but a perfect location if this is what you want to do. Couldnt fault the place and the price was good. Hopefully they wont suddenly hike the prices up. If not I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to friends.
Absolutely loved the location, the bungalow was clean and very well equipped, the only thing lacking was a towel rail or somewhere to hang towels. I loved the fact we were not next door to any owners and had complete peace and quiet. Sitting in the hot tub watching red kites fly overhead was just about perfect, hope to return at some point.
Antony
Great bungalow. Had one problem with cooker which was sorted immediately. Very comfortable, everything you could need in local town 3 miles away. The only thing I. Would suggest is some better seating in garden
Debbie
Such a beautiful location, we loved our stay and will have no problem returning here, it was wonderful! Large and spacious holiday home, we found the property to be in good repair and clean. Beds super comfortable, safe garden for the dogs to be in. The views were magnificent, parking fantastic too, I had a sense of privacy here, even though theres a farm near the location, you were not overlooked at all, the hot tub was great. I had to contact the owner around getting the cooker to work, as no instructions on how to use it. They were very helpful, the cooker was great, a good selection of pots, pans etc. The hot water was so hot! This could be turned down a degree or two. Dishwasher, washing machine all worked well, clothes horse in the games room. My only criticisms no walking guides, and no pamphlets on the local area or places to visit so Ive left some in the welcome folder from days out Id had. Finishing touches, some items I expected to see were not there, no hairdryer, no tea pot, no salt, pepper or extra cleaning products, one tea towel, one bin bag. So Id pack some kitchen bits. No towel rail in the bathroom. I think I also have to note, we stayed in the hottest week. Impossible to open the windows as the flies came in, so a fan or two might be a nice touch, but overall we loved our stay. Thank you
We had a great week here with our friends and dogs. It was the dogs first holiday and they had the best time! The garden is enclosed so they could run around and we could also walk them up and down the lane. It was so peaceful and all we could hear were the birds and the sheep! The bungalow was well equipped. The pool table was an added bonus on a wet day and the hot tub was amazing whether sunny or overcast. It would have been even more amazing if wed had a couple of sun beds or loungers so we could have relaxed and taken in the fantastic views. Wed definitely return!
Maureen
Lovely cottage with a few problems there are no towel rails in the bathroom, no hooks in the bedrooms for dressing gowns, no instructions for the cooker and the hot tub didn't work properly. for those of us who do not own these thingss it was difficult. Apart from those minor problems everything was Lovely.
Very nice place with a lovely view

Second visit to this bungalow, all was as expected, we thoroughly enjoyed our short break away, had a few minor bits that needed attention, a door was sticking and a loose handle, messaged the owner, maintenance arrived within the hour, brilliant service, very impressive, will be returning
Barbara
We had a great holiday we will be returning. Thankyou
Overall we all really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was warm, comfortable, clean, spacious and the facilities were generally good. We especially enjoyed the hot tub coupled the rural location which gave us a good sence of privacy and a fantastic view of the stars due to the reduced light pollution. The cottage had most the things we needed but just lacked some of the smaller things which we have enjoyed in other cottages such as salt, pepper, tea coffee and milk. These small things can make a big difference especially whrn you first arrive. I would definitely consider staying in this cottage again.
Nice stay, lots of space and great facilities. Bed was comfortable and property was very clean. Only faults I can say is that there were lots of flies outside so didnt use the hot tub and the amount of pool balls werent correct. Other than that very happy and would stay again.
Second visit and cant fault it even though storms Eunice and Franklin hit us. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. We will be back again.
Christopher
Stunning bungalow, very relaxing surroundings and will definitely be booking again. Thanks for a great stay.
The property is great, so much to do, very well equipt, very clean and beautiful scenery. I stay here with my family very often, at least once a year and we absolutely adore it! Perfect for a family getaway!
The water supply comes from a spring, and is not mentioned in your description. We had no water for three days and no hot water to be able to shower. Mattress was not very comfortable. But otherwise location was great!
Jo-anne
The only thing that wasnt perfect is we think the temperature reading on the hot tub was inaccurate. It was extremely hot even after turning it down and it reading 37.4 degrees. The hot tub at Glanyrafon house was far more comfortable at a higher temperature reading than the one at Glanyrafon bungalow.
Nicola
