Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
Children have plenty of space to play in the enclosed garden and can spot wildlife from the windows. The Elan Valley visitor centre 8 miles away has a dedicated children's play area. Multiple living spaces let kids have their own areas while the hot tub provides entertainment. Previous guests aged 6 to 70 have enjoyed stays here together.
For Couples
This property is designed for large groups rather than couples. With eight bedrooms and space for eighteen guests, it lacks the intimate atmosphere most couples prefer. The annexe could offer some privacy but requires climbing 18 steps. Couples would find better suited accommodation in smaller properties focused on romantic breaks.

Multiple dogs are welcome at Hillside Lodge with an enclosed garden providing safe outdoor space. Previous guests have brought up to four dogs successfully. The rural location offers walking routes directly from the property. The garden gives dogs room to explore while the countryside setting means plenty of exercise opportunities nearby.

Hillside Lodge Reviews

Cecilia
Hillside Lodge was excellent for our large family Christmas. The welcome hamper was was much appreciated It had Christmas Trees and decoration up.. Kitchen very well equipped, Could do with some TLC. No hair dryer The only problem we had was the lack of outdoor lighting at the back of the property to get tom the hot tub, annex, and putting rubbish out. We would highly recommend for large groups.
Richard
We had a pre Christmas family party here , on arrival they had put the heating on so the place was lovely and warm for us , they had left us a nice welcome food hamper in the kitchen, plenty of room for our large family . i8 in total including a 2 year old all the bedrooms are large with beautiful views of the surrounding countyside fully equipped kitchen inc washing machine and large fridge and freezer , plus a hot tub which we used and found excellent , we also took our little Cockapoo plenty of space to walk him in the Barns Garden. We loved it and are considering booking again next year .
Rachael
The property is in poor condition and in need of a full refurbishment. The house requires painting throughout, and there are visible dirt marks, scuffs, and patches of missing wallpaper on the walls. Several maintenance issues were also present Wooden kitchen floorboards are missing Cupboard doors are loose or falling off The microwave has a broken button and is difficult to use There is mould in the bathrooms, and the extractor fans do not work Showers give off a burning smell when in use, which is concerning The annexe building was unusable due to an oil boiler leak, which made the space unsafe and unavailable. Overall, the condition of the property did not meet expectations, and many of the issues affected comfort and usability during the stay. Maintenance is urgently needed.

Excellent place to stay, don't mind going back and stay there again. Oven was not working properly, but did not bother as we were busy. Support is there for you if you required. Very kind and professional.
Stayed here with a group of friends for my partners 50th. The out of the way area was ideal for us, the house was great, plenty of room to relax, the big downstairs room was great. The rooms were great, I stayed in the annex, was nice and cosy. The hot tub was a welcome addition, especially after dragging 5 city guys around 20kms of a elan valley trail. Over all a great place to stay.
It was so lovely to stay at Hillside as its set in such beautiful surroundings. The house was as it said and catered well for a family of 14 the kitchen was well equipped with two good sized fridges and also a good freezer. There was also a good walk in pantry. The beds were all clean and the duvets good togs. The house definitely needs some TLC my husband had to clue one of the draws back together Im also 6ft and who ever does the cleaning must be shorter as all the cobwebs were just above 5ft leveland there were definitely plenty of them! Hooks in the shower rooms would have been great because there was no where to hang towels. The taps in the room opposite the big lounge were the wrong way round so hot water coming out of the one that said cold, we had two small children in that room so it could have been quite nasty had we not realised. However even after all that said we loved our stay and it certainly wouldnt put us off booking again.
Maureen
We arrived together with a mix of ages from 8 to seventies to celebrate the New Year. The facility to celebrate was great as the dinning area and lounge area was very accommodating for us all to be together. The showers were not very good in some of the rooms, even when we weren't trying to use them at same time. Maybe some hooks or shelves in the bathroom would be a good addition as they were lacking a few basics for towels and toiletries certainly in the room near dinning room. some of the decoration needs attention and including new curtain in our room as one was hanging down and needed new hooks. Kitchen was great to cook and enough of fridge and freezer room. Hot tub was really good some written info on how to use it would be good though, unless I missed that in the book. The views are amazing with lots of wildlife to see. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and above comments made wouldn't deter us from recommending this home to others to stay.
Had a lovely stay thank you .
Adrian
This is a great house for a large party. Rooms are spacious and plenty of seating in the bottom floor lounge for everyone. First floor kitchen and dining area is also large, plenty of room for dining and cooking. Bedrooms also a good size. Hot tub easily fits 6 and alot of good chairs. We enjoyed our stay very much.
The lodge was great we loved everything about it was big open airy lots of room ... The lodge was great we loved everything about it was big open airy lots of room for all of our families loved the large table so everyone can sit together for our family dinner hot tub was amazing would of liked a little outside light for the nighttime getting out of the hot tub was very dark beautiful views and will definitely book there again and we are looking forward to going back we made some fantastic memories with our families
We enjoyed our stay at hillside, in fact this property has bags of room, the beds were comfortable and in general the house was clean. We were disappointed with some of the outdoor areas and feel there is room for improvement. Some of the paving is loose or have big gaps, not ideal for children or the elderly. The patio furniture is in a shocking state, some of the chairs are broken causing one of our guests to fall to the ground when she sat on it. To look at it the chairs look OK but the really are in poor condition. All the gutters were overflowing when it rained and some of the down pipes are not even coupled together. Sad really we felt it just needs a bit of TLC on the maintenance side and new patio furniture to make the say a more enjoyable experience.
Charles
The house was warm and comfortable and all the beds were clean. There were plenty of soft towels and plenty of shower rooms. On suit bathrooms could do with hooks or rail for towels and a mirror over the sink for shaving. Plenty of cupboards in the kitchen and well equipped. Lots of space and TVs for separating in the house. Outside needed some light by the hot tub. There was not much outdoor space in the garden for children to play, and no local public footpaths for walks from the property except along the road.
Darren
Property was lovely and accommodated our large group really well. Each room was spacious and we enjoyed the multiple large spaces both downstairs and in the dining area. Bedrooms were a good size and meant we could accommodate family groups in specific rooms, the annex or top floor which was also helpful. The hot tub had been prepared on arrival too, and whilst the weather wasnt great, the hot tub was as nice to relax in. Would have been better with some external lighting, and maybe a covered area for when it was raining? The annex was also a really good space for a family with small kids to retire to, when the rest anted to stop up later Top floor rooms were a little cold compared to rest of house top floor electric heaters on timers versus central heating elsewhere. Also, the range cooker was ok and double oven really helpful, but the electric hob took a while to heat up and so cooking a stir fry or large breakfasts dinners for 1618 was a challenge. Lots of storage space for food, a good sized freezer complemented the two fridges and lots of plates and cutlery, exactly what was needed for a big family gathering, and hokey the dishwasher was also out to good use.. Outside the front access to walk the fields was overgrown, which limited our dog walking to the narrow road behind the house, which was slightly frustrating as we had two active young dogs with us.. being able to access the field in front of the house for a country walk would have been good despite the wet weather. Overall a very good stay, with a few minor improvements
