About The Old House

The Old House is a beautifully converted property set in an elevated position on a working livestock farm in mid-Wales. Located three miles from Llanidloes in Powys, this characterful cottage offers sweeping valley views across to Llyn Clywedog dam.

The area sits on the eastern slopes of the Cambrian Mountains. You can walk straight from the front door into Hafren Forest or explore the source of the River Severn. Red kites circle overhead and the night sky is perfect for stargazing with no light pollution.

Inside you'll find three bedrooms: one king-size double, one double with en-suite (bath and shower over) and one twin. The large well-equipped kitchen has a breakfast area seating four. The striking beamed sitting room features a woodburner that heats the cottage during winter. There's also a study with electric fire and a ground floor WC.

Llanidloes (3 miles) offers independent shops and cafes. Aberystwyth sits 30 miles away (under an hour). Elan Valley is 40 minutes by car. Powis Castle stands 20 miles distant.

The Old House was stunning. Clean and comfortable with everything you need a real home from home. The house is HUGE with plenty of room for teenagers to have their own space. The views were incredible and the clear, dark skies were amazing for stargazing we even saw a meteor shower! Nearby Llanidloes is a cute town good grub at the Red Lion and the Unicorn. We took a trip to the nearby old lead mine and went to the Lynn Clywedog dam viewpoints so beautiful. Devils bridge is a fun day out too, and there lots of old castle ruins to explore not too far away. We also had a day trip to Aberystwyth and went to the circus in Newtown. A&E at Shrewsbury hospital were also great just in case youre accident prone and need it like we did oops!!. I would highly recommend staying here and hope to go back again

What a beautiful place to spend a week away. The house is huge a place for everyone to get some peace. Everything was spotlessly clean and we had everything that we needed. The surrounding area is wonderful and we had a couple of walks near the lake, a trip round the Elan Valley and a day out in Aberystwyth all within easy reach. Coming from a busy urban area, the best bit was the peace and quiet. We spent time sitting outside accompanied only by the Ravens, House Martins and the occasional cow. Absolute perfection. We'll be back!

A wonderful, peaceful getaway! The house offers total privacy and the quiet is just amazingour only soundtrack was the local sheep and the birds nesting outside. The kitchen had absolutely every appliance we needed, making our stay completely hasslefree. You might notice the TV is on the older side and WIFI isn't bad but isnt the fibre optic we'd grown used to, but thats actually a good thing in a beautiful spot like this the last thing you want to do is stare at a screen. Highly recommend this cottage if you want to unplug, relax, and enjoy nature.

Beautiful location, amazing views and we were lucky to stay when the daffodils were in flower and lambs were in the fields. Very comfortable and peaceful stay. The house is lovely and the book of photos of the restoration work was impressive insight into the work to rebuild it. Thank you for an unforgettable family holiday.

Stunning house in a stunning location, obviously being April it rained for 3 days of our stay so we got the logburner going each evening and Kayleigh kindly supplied us with extra logs to help keep the evenings warm and toasty in the delightful sitting room, even in the rain the views and area are stunning and having such a beautiful house to relax in made it a great holiday.

A very clean cottage, extremely spacious, remote and on a working farm. Glorious views from one aspect and livestock from the other. Walks from the front door and we didn't see any one else for the 11k on either. If we missed anything it would have been a pub, warm fire and lunch to finish the day off. But the 7 days flew by and we loved every minute of our stay.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage in a fantastic location, views are breathtaking. Spotlessly clean, home from home cottage, had all you needed and more! Although it has the remote feel it is only 3 miles hour walk longer on the way back as uphill from the local town. We wished we could have stayed longer & will definitely be back!

Had a fab holiday at The Old House. When we arrived we were amazed by the stunning views and as we got out of the car a Red Kite flew over, which was a highlight for me. An amazing holiday cottage in a beautiful location which is even better than the pictures in real life. We had the most wonderful fortnight staying here and did not want to leave. The house was incredibly spacious and clean and contained everything you could need for a relaxing selfcatering holiday. The views were incredible both during the day and at night we were even lucky enough to see some ospreys flying overhead. Kayleigh, the owner was wonderfully welcoming and our children were fascinated to learn more about the farm and the animals. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone and will return!

Excellent property, warm and very comfortable, well equipped and loads of space. The bedroom with the ensuite is the other end of the upstairs landing with the other 2 bedroom adjacent to the other bathroom, this worked perfectly for us as myself and kids where one end and grandparents that came with us the other. Quality of the furniture is great and it is well thought out. Great central location to explore central wales. Would highly recommend.

An absolutely amazing property, making our New Year family get together the most special time! The cleanliness of the accommodation was superb, making us feel extra safe with Covid still being a concern. The property had absolutely everything we could have needed, and more! Lastly, the host Kayleigh was the most welcoming lady and made sure we had everything we needed. I would 100 recommend this property in any season, as it is super cosy with the log burner in the winter, and has gorgeous views outside and a lovely area to enjoy outside in the summer.
