Oakwood House, Rhayader

Superb place for a lovely weekend. Issue with Aga sorted quickly. Beds so very comfortable. House clean and comfortable. 50 min flat ish leisurely walk to Rhayader. Stunning scenery.

Our second visit to this beautiful house . On arrival was decorated for Christmas which was a nice touch . Slight criticism would be that the hot tub needs some attention and would benefit from topping up cleaning during the stay .and that some areas are ready for decoration. The aga is the only method of cooking so need to look at what meals to take. Really quiet relaxing stay .

We enjoyed our stay at the Oakwood House! The location is nice, the house was spotless and the views were great. Everything about our visit felt relaxing and comfortable. The only small suggestion would be to add a gazebo for autumn and winter, which would be perfect for enjoying the outdoors even if it rains. Overall, though, it was an excellent stay and we would love to come back!

Excellent holiday our 6 children and 2 dogs loved our week's stay in Aug. 2025. Recommended. The only thing I would upgrade is the size of the TV in the conservatory.

We had a fantastic time celebrating a 40th birthday we are a group of mums who wanted a quiet and chilled weekend with pretty walks on our doorstep and thats exactly what we got! The house is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and the views are incredible, we saw many red kites flying past, which was a bonus. The house is self catering so we took everything that was needed but there were some basics already there such as hand soap, washing up liquid and tea towels. The hot tub was great and the outdoor space is brilliant. We loved the kitchen the aga was fab and there was so much cupboard storage as well as two fridges and a freezer. Others have mentioned flies, yes there were some but its what youd expect being in the countryside the owners have provided fly repellent strips it wasnt a big deal for us. We would love to return, it was a perfect house for a group but equally perfect for families. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

Thank you, Oakwood, we had a fabulous holiday in this lovely huge house with plenty of room for my family of 8 people and a beautiful view you would never tire of. However, the details are not quite correct if you have dogs. Although it states 'safe' the decking area goes to the side of the house with no gates and the garden isn't 100 safe, again going round the side of the house and with sheep at the bottom, so we had to watch our dogs at all times or put them on a lead. There were also gaps where a small dog could get through.

We stayed here to celebrate my dads 50th and the house was great for a large party of 10. The location and views are lovely for a relaxing stay with some nice local walks. There were a few things that could definitely be improved though, and what is more annoying is that all of these things have been mentioned in previous reviews up to a year ago and none of these things have been taken on board by the owners. This was an expensive stay and it felt like the owners are scrimping in every aspect no soap provided in any of the bathrooms, watered down fairy liquid, no antibacterial spray for worktops, no chalk for the pool table, only 1 dish cloth provided, the stair gate is broken and hanging off and sounds like it has been for a long time from other reviews. Also, only 1 key was provided for 3 doors which were opposite ends of the house which is a massive fire hazard!!!! Also, for the price it is really missing a token small welcome hamper.

Absolutely beautiful property, would definitely recommend. We stay around the area, the same time each year so have been to many houses, the configuration of this property works fantastic for a large group. Beds were very comfortable

We have a lovely stay here, the views were amazing! Just a few things that could be addressed there was no hand soap in any of the bathrooms, no spare toilet roll and no cleaning products anywhere so if you dont arrive with these things it means a trip into town right away. The top half of the garden with the gate was good for our dogs but the house is advertised as dog friendly and I dont believe the grass part is actually dog friendly due to all the holes in the fences where sheep were kept and the grass part is not safely enclosed and if you have energetic or nosey dogs this isnt ideal. Also, the stair gate that was meant to stop dogs going upstairs was broke and kept falling off the wall every time somebody came through.

Beautiful position as advertised , very quiet , lovely view, great for watching red kites. Well appointed very clean . Never used an aga so was a new challenge !!

We had a lovely weekend, the house is beautiful, with amazing views. The house is great for a group of you to go away with lots of space for everyone. The large garden space for our dog was a great bonus. The only thing that let this house down for us was the late check in of 5pm and we feel it needs a bit of TLC with a few things broken , notified the owner of what we have found and we received a reply while away which was very good. We would highly recommend the crown pub in the local village for food and drink had a lovely meal here for my mum birthday. myself and all the family had a really lovely break and hope to return

Wonderful property in a stunning location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Perfect accommodation for our party of 10. The pool table and hot tub were a big hit with all three generations of our group. Just one issue we had to put up a makeshift fence to enclose the top garden for the dog, although we had requested this. Other than that, we couldnt fault Oakwood House.

This is no doubt a beautiful house. However, it posts that it is dog friendly. The grounds are not fenced in. The grass bit is below but there are no flood lights outside the house so we were managing with a phone torch at night. Please also note that dogs are not allowed upstairs. We lost a pair of glasses whilst we were there and underneath the radiator covers I dont think have ever seen a hoover. The bedrooms are lovely and one of them has a dressing table but there are no chairs in any of the bedrooms. Just one chair would be useful. The area is amazing and I would highly recommend the Elan Valley dams

Beautiful house. The one thing is the flys. Spray and they are gone to be repaced within minutes. We stayed as a party of 11 from Grandparents to Grandchildren. All had a great time. If you want a holiday away from it all this is the place. Secluded away on a hill over looking the Valley. Watching the red kites fly over head, absolutely stunning. A little town 5minutes drive away has the basics covered.

Value for money was amazing for the property and would highly recommend! Would definitely boon again for the future

We stayed at Oakwood House to celebrate my mom & aunts 70th birthday. 10 of us stayed in the house comfortably with plenty of room, so not under each others feet. Due to the snow, we were allowed earlier access to the house which was appreciated. The house was warm and inviting. Issue with the aga on Sunday was dealt with promptly and did resolve itself. The House has beautiful views across the valley, which can be appreciated from the back of the house & hot tub. Hot tub was a nice addition. Only issues water pressure on 2nd floor, I was trying to shower while someone on 1st floor was also trying to shower and the 2nd floor shower just went off, leaving me cold and covered in suds. Maybe a water pump is needed for the 2nd floor to ensure consistent supply. We had a 5 month old puppy with us she was well behaved but a bit of a Houdini, even on the fenced patio area. So if you take a small dog or puppy, there are small spaces for them to escape through. A great stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at Oakwood house. Everybody had a brilliant time and the house is gorgeous. We were lucky to have some really nice days in the garden which in February was a nice surprise. The beds are really comfortable and therefore nobody had any complaints about their sleep. A few things for us that we found affected our holiday were The Aga its just not big enough to feed a family of 10. Trying to boil food was a nightmare because only one of the hobs was a fast boil. The other was a simmering hob. This made frying food, boiling food etc really annoying because food had to be done in batches and then we had to heat the first lot back up once everything was done. Same for the oven, just not big enough to warrant only having one hot oven and the other a slow cooker oven. And they only had one rack between ovens so not enough room to get everything in. Not great for us and made me dread tea time. Flies oh my goodness were flies an issue. There were hundreds of flied that gathered in the living roomconservatory every single day. Hundreds. We contacted the owners who were very helpful in bringing some cans of raid and fly traps which we appreciated but it didn't stop the problem. There were dead flies everywhere constantly all over the floor, the beds, the sofa, the window sills, everywhere. We were having to try to avoid sitting down before we had checked to see if any dead flies were on the sofas etc. I know this may not be the owners fault but it's a massive problem that really did affect the holiday because by day 4 we were sick of hoovering and sweeping dead flies and picking them off the bottom of the kids feet! Not great. Also didn't help that the Henry hoover in the properly STUNK so everytime we turned it on the house stank. Sounds ridiculous but this really took over the holiday for us and had this not been an issue it really would have changed our holiday. Aestically the sofa in the living roomconservatory could do with being updated. The cushions are all ripped and really REALLY sagged. Just didn't look the best like the one in the snug did which was in perfect condition. The fly problem is what would stop us coming back, especially in summer because if it was thay bad in Feb I can't imagine what it would be like it warmer months. It's a shame because I would 100 definitely come back if this wasn't an issue because the home and views are beautiful.

An absolutely stunning property in a beautiful location. The perfect place for our dad's surprise 80th birthday weekend. When we arrived the house was clean, warm and welcoming. The only downside was the lack of basic items such as bin bags, kitchen cleaner, coffee, tea etc which have been provided in other houses we have stayed in. Other than that would highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing stay in a truly gorgeous setting. We will be back!

An excellent family stay in an absolutely lovely property. Everything was spot on and we had a great time. We all said that we would love to return sometime. The Elan Valley is breathtaking and added to our holiday. Thank you

Great property for a large party! Amazing views, lots of room and an amazing place to spend Christmas. View little niggles, kitchen lacked some utensils and thought there may have been a welcome pack on arrival as it wasnt cheap to rent. Unsure if the fields in front of the property were owned by the park but there were dead sheep in the field all the 4 days we stayed there.

This was our annual family Christmas get together, its always an exciting time for us. The house was well laid out and clean. The hot tub is a fantastic addition and it was great to have it all prepared for our arrival. The Aga took a bit of getting used to but it was good to have a lovely warm kitchen as it heats up the area nicely A couple of little things that did not spoil our stay the pool cues are all damaged, the juke box had a faulty wire so we did not attempt to use it.. would have been good to have the music. The TV in the lounge would randomly switch off. The one thing that did cause a little bit of an issue was the water pressure! Even when only one person was using water, the pressure was so low that it would stop. All I all it was an excellent stay, stargazing from the hot tub and the views from the orangery lounge were stunning. In the day you could see the Kites swooping down and it honestly was a lovely stay

We had an amazing trip at Oakwood House and was presently surprised by the breathtaking view! The house was very clean and spacious however we did have issues with flies and the water pressure. The top floor sometimes didnt have any water at all and the other floor showers had minimal pressure. Otherwise was a great stay and I will definitely be recommending it to others!

Really enjoyed the house and the location. You would struggle to find any better value for money. The kitchendining area is a great communal space, and well equipped. The heat of the aga makes it a very comfortable space. The living area providing fantastic panoramic views was good, but we couldnt make the tv connect to the WiFi or streaming services. The WiFi was good, so browsing web or streaming on devices was fine. Loved the outdoor patio, garden and hot tub. Really useful space for the two dogs we had. And of course, great views. The hot tub could have used some cleaning during the week though. Only issue we had was that the hot water was only lukewarm, and cold in the upstairs bathrooms when we arrived, and the water pressure in the bathrooms was low, and would cut out if any other taps were used. We raised this, and the owner sorted it out. Although the pressure remained low in the upstairs bathrooms. But the house is high on the hillside. Overall we were very happy with the accommodation.

Just returned from a stay with our family of 10. ..house very spacious but still warm and cosy. 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms is definitely a bonus. Very well equipped kitchen with a fabulous Aga. Beds very comfortable too! Super outdoor space with a good sized hottub lid awkward to take off as frame broken. Sofas in the main lounge require updating but all in all very good value for money and we have booked to return! Close proximity to Elan Valley is a bonus also!

The house was fantastic with great facilities, including the hot tub. The only draw back was the flieshowever we realise this cant be helped when in the countryside in the summer. Maybe more fly catchers would be helpful. The scenery was just breath taking. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

Hot tub wasnt clean. The flies in the property was a massive problem, they would benefit from using electric fly catchers in each room. We placed many sticky catchers and caught literally hundreds we have pictures if needed. We asked about a problem with the boiler and water pressure assured someone would check it at the property this didnt happen. Loose staircase which was a problem as one of the guest relies heavily upon using a hand rail to walk up the stairs. BBQ was dated. The property has huge potential if the decor was freshened, if all of the above was out right I would gladly pay extra to stay again however as it is I wouldnt choose again. We took out small dog and the property wasnt enclosed so a leash was required at all times when she went into the garden.

We had a lovely stay at Oakwood house. The property was lovely, well maintained and the staff at the lodge park really friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back again

Lovely family get together. House was just as advertised. Only thing we found that the WiFi and TV reception was not that good. But it was still nice to just chill and listen to music instead. Will deffo go back.

Fantastic break for myself and my family. Everything was immaculate, the only thing I would suggest is that you supply fly spray, there was a note in the welcome book about the flys so if this is a continuous problem I would expect you to supply your guests with fly spray to enable them to have a comfortable stay. Myself and my family had to eat upstairs as the flys were gathered in the kitchen and in the conservatory room. We were red hot as we didnt want to open the doors so more flys would get it and I had to prepare my babies bottles upstairs too. As soon as we got fly spray the problem was easily solved but I dont expect to be making trips to town just to look for the spray.

Great house, which is well proportioned. Great accommodation, great facilities, with picturesque views. High recommend.

Great cottage, great stay. Just a little disappointed that we couldn't use the hot tub. Fully understand the weather was poor. But reported the hot tub was unusable on the first day to the number provided, but had no reply nor any remedy to topping up the tub to use! Other than that, really enjoyed the house.

We've just returned home from a fabulous short break at Oakwood House. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side and we had to leave a night early to avoid the storm. The house is absolutely beautiful, the views are spectacular. I do have to agree with previous reviews in regards to the lack of lighting on the patio area and rear of the property. We very much look forward to returning in the near future!

Excellent property would definitely return in the future. Only downside for us is that the groundsgarden isn't enclosed but other than that it's a really spacious house and we had a lovely stay

Beautiful house and enjoyed every second of our girly stay. The house was beautiful and clean, but just lacked the finer details extra toilet rolls, hand soaps and maybe some tea towels. Would definitely visit again x

We all had a lovely holiday at Oakwood house,we arrived to a nice clean house, its such a lovely place and made the holiday. We had everything we needed. They even put our Tesco shop away has it arrived before us,thank you. Would highly recommend.

A great place for all at this property,the only slight niggle was the outside should have a fence at the side of house to stop pets getting out. Otherwise no problem

Fantastic house, well equipped kitchen, lovely and warm, felt at home peaceful location, host was easily contactable. only one negative and they was lacking out door lighting on the patio would highly recommend to others

It says the Hot tub would be looked at everyday they came once and I had to request it. When 8 adults use it every day in a week it gets very grubby.
