Haimwood Byetake Reviews

Caroline
A lovely property in peaceful surroundings with wonderful views. Spent a week here & it was ideal for us to bring my 96 year old mum & our dog. Very comfy beds , good showers & cooking facilities & clean & tastefully decorated. Lots of lovely places to visit in the area & for walks. Particularly enjoyed Nesscliffe country park , lake Vyrnwy & Melverley church. Loved watching the cows coming back & forth & waking up to the cockerel. River Vyrnwy runs by the back of the property where there were lots of cherry plum trees ready for picking. David kindly gave us a jar of home made jam. Lovely welcome pack on arrival including welsh cakes & prosecco, much appreciated. A lovely stay thanks .
The property was lovely. An idyllic spot it had everything we needed. It was a great base to explore mid Wales and beyond and was great for our dogs who also enjoyed their stay.
We loved being at Haimwood, didnt want to come home! Loved how the hens and cockerel visited us each day! Thank you for the wonderful welcome pack, especially the Welsh cakes.
Delightful property set in peaceful surroundings with fantastic views. Well equipped cottage with ample parking. Plenty of dog friendly pubs and cafes in this area we particularly liked the Admiral Rodney at Criggon for traditional pub food and the Two Chefs Indian restaurant take away in Llandrinio. The owners were very welcoming and helpful but not intrusive.
Great stay, great facilities lovely location, fab hosts and lovely little welcome treats too. All round fantastic stay.
Kirsty
Beautiful lodge had everything we needed for a peaceful holiday in stunning surroundings David and Emma made us feel very welcome and left us to enjoy our holiday but was there if we needed them . We will definitely recommend this property and also return ourselfs in the future
After 2 traumatic years, this was an important holiday for us & Haimwood Bytake didnt fail to live up to our expectations. From the welcome basket, to the idyllic location & standard of property, this has been the perfect break even the weather was wonderful. A petrol stationsmall shop & at least 3 excellent pubsrestaurants are within a short distance with larger supermarkets within 15 minutes away at Bicton & Welshpool were an added plus. The only negative thing was that the directions to the property were not wholly accurate, particularly in the unmarked lanes leading to Haimwood Byetake the property would benefit from being clearly signposted at the entrance to the final lane in, as SatNav doesnt take you anywhere near the property.
Kenneth
Absolutely beautiful place, so quiet. The property was well furnished, clean and Emma and David left a lovely welcome basket. If you need some time out to refresh yourself look no further.
Davina
The hosts, David & Emma were very welcoming. The added touch of Prosecco, milk, bottled water & a basket containing tea, cakes, breakfast jams & coffee was a lovely touch. The property is amazing with beautiful panoramic views & only a short drive from the nearby shops, pub, garage etc. The property is extremely wellequipped & very pet friendly. Beautiful walks, complete rest & relaxation was the key for us. Beds were very comfy & bed linen was fresh & clean. The added benefit of both bedrooms being ensuite was important to us. A beautiful weekend spent in this gorgeous property & I would highly recommend it. We will be returning soon, thank you David & Emma
Jackie
Spacious well appointed cottage with stunning views and peaceful location. The beds were very comfortable and the linen was top quality. The hosts were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. There was a fire at local farm which knocked out the electricity supplies for a few hours. The hosts kept us informed and kindly supplied us with hot water for tea from their Aga. Lots of options to explore close by so seriously considering a return visit.
Had the most lovely time. So very peaceful, lovely hosts. Beautiful weather. Accommodation perfect.
Anne-marie
A perfect place to rest and relax. Wonderful facilities in a glorious setting. David was there to greet us and there was also a lovely welcome pack. The cottage was warm and welcoming with everything we needed. A lovely retreat but not too far away from places of interest.
We had a lovely relaxing stay . A nice welcome pack was a nice surprise. The views from the property were stunning. Our dog Tom loved his walks . If you like peace & quiet this is the place for you . We will be back
The property was ideal for our winter stay with easy access to the extensive riverbank paths for dog walking. The property is spacious and well equipped, and the beds very comfortable. The heating too is very good. Wifi and smart TV supplied so fine for a wet day too. The long drive to the property is quite bumpy but fine as long as you take it slowly. The only thing I would like added to the property if staying in the summer would be some blinds on the south facing windows as the place does heat up quickly when the sun is out an advantage in winter!.
A really lovely property. Great views. Helpful owners
A beautifully & well equipped holiday property. It was especially suitable for those with limited accessibility having two ensuite spacious bedroom all at ground level. It is Well located, offering multiple choices for those who enjoy walking andor visiting local places of interest but also provides a peaceful and tranquil place to relax and watch and enjoy the views and wildlife The owners David and Emma could not have been more helpful providing a very friendly, accessible welcome yet never intrusive presence We would definitely look to returning
Philip
It was very nice. Strange not having a teapot.
Sheila
The cottage was beautiful, very clean with everything we needed for our stay. The owners David and Emma are very friendly and recommended places to visit and things to do with our furbabies, they where always on hand if we needed them The massive glass windows where prefect to sit and look out at the breathe taking views of the the Welsh countryside had to offer. The dogs loved watching the chickens roaming freely around the property. Loved watching the cowsbulls coming and going each day, totally not fazed by people being around. Things to note the cottage gets extremely warm when its sunny, there was a fan in the property to help, but due to the little mini heat wave we purchased a couple more to help. If youre bothered by bugs, grabbing a couple of citronella candles will help to reduce the amount inside. All in all we loved the place, I would highly recommend staying here.
Duncan
A lovely place to stay and BalaLake Vyrnwy, Snowdonia and Brecon all close enough for day trips. I can see that the main room can get very hot on a sunny day perhaps some shading of the upper part of the huge window would be a good idea?
This property is absolutely great. It is located with working farmland surrounding, which means waking up to a rooster and sound of cattle. As an artist, I had plenty of opportunities to paint in the immediate surround. The property is also very dog friendly, with plenty of walking spots right out of the front door. The owners were very accommodating and friendly, going so far as to provide OS maps to help with nearby walks. The location is private with access only for the owners and whoever is staying. Having said that, I do think that the main windows need blinds. The welcome hamper with prosecco was a welcome and lovely touch. I will definitely be returning next year or maybe even again this year!. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Beautiful location, great accommodation and fantastic hosts. We visited the local Punch Bowl bar and grill which was nearby and unbelievable food! Our dog loved the countryside walks too. Very relaxing 2 night stay.
Hayley
We loved the barn, it was perfectly configured for us to holiday with a teenager. She had her own space and bathroom. The surroundings were incredible and the barn has a superb view, even at night when we could see galaxies and planets with the naked eye. It was quiet and felt completely away from everything while being convenient for great days out in Shrewsbury and Ironbridge, Powys Castle and Chester Zoo. It was great for local fishing too. Our only issue with the barn was heat as the front elevation is glass and I have multiple sclerosis which responds badly to heat. The owners were friendly, with just the right balance of leaving us alone and checking we were ok. They brought us a fan for the heat and were always available. All in all we had a fantastic week and would love to return at a cooler time of year.
Fantastic place. Very peaceful location with views and wildlife to match . Very close to everything in the area. The accommodation is comfortable and well equipped. Make sure you read the description, unlike me. It doesnt have any single beds. Would of liked to of had some blinds or curtains on the front windows. It does get very warm in the day time. We would definitely come back. But with a camp bed
Stephen
Overall very peaceful and relaxing. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, but not intrusive and gave us our space during our stay. Only issue we found was that on sunny days the living space can get quite warm due to the full height windows at the front and its South facing so gets the sun most of the day. Perhaps some form of partial screening might help. Other than that I can recommend this property for an enjoyable stay.
Michele
A lovely time was had at Haimwood Byetake, such a lovely lodge & so peaceful. If you are looking for peace & quite, this is the place to be. David & Emma were fabulous hosts & are easy to get hold of. The facilities & accommodation are lovely, very clean & spacious, this is my second trip here, will definitely come again. Thank you
The property itself is kept beautifully and equipped with comfortable sofas and beds the personal touch of a welcome hamper and information about local walks was very much appreciated. The views from the property are lovely and the setting is very peaceful. The orientation of the sofas are for the benefit of taking in the countryside views through the floor to ceiling front windows, but does make watching the wall mounted TV challenging so you either sit on them sideways or would have to turn them around. The internet signal is variable which made watching anything online a little frustrating. We do feel the property description should be made clearer, particularly for dog owners as had we realised a couple of points we may not have chosen this property. For example, the photos and description do not make it clear that it is attached to the owners property and as such the driveway is shared, the garden area for the lodge is not secure and the owners have free roaming chickens this for us meant having to keep our dogs on lead at all times outside of the lodge. It is in a rural location, surrounded by fields and rough tracks and the provision of an outside tap and a prompt for dog owners to bring dog towels would be advisable as whilst towels for people are provided, towels for dogs are not we had the misfortune of wet weather on top of already saturated ground so this limited the walking we could do because of the muddy conditions and how muddy we and our dogs would have got. We had bought a dog crate, dog bed and dog towels with us but had we not, wouldnt have felt the lodge sufficiently equipped for 2 dogs particularly given the reminders to refrain from allowing dogs on the furniture including sofas and beds. Aside from the two bedrooms there are also no curtains on the other lodge windows which we found added further challenge in terms of dogs waking at daylight, and from a personal perspective given the owners have to cross in front of the main lodge front windows to enter and exit their home, we would have preferred the option of having curtains or blinds to afford greater privacy at night and first thing in the morning. Being attached to the owners property also means the heating and hot water is controlled from the owners property. We found the lodge comfortably warm, and an electric fire is available in the open plan lounge area though we didnt need to use this we did however notice in the evening there was less hot water available. We would like to suggest a couple of additions to the property inventory which we would have found helpful as yes as described there is a lovely range cooker and cooking is something we enjoy as part of our holiday, but found a couple of things absent a bowl and whisk for preparing scrambled eggs, a jug for making gravy, some microwaveable or oven proof casserole dishes and a cafetire. A significant mention should also be made of the lengthy unlit rural track you have to travel along to access the property. We received an email from the owners 2 days before arrival warning us that due to recent weather a few potholes had developed there were certainly more than a few, several of them deep, and no means of avoiding them because they spanned the width of the track in places. Having recently had work carried out on our car including new tyres, this was not a welcome discovery and for us resulted in us only going out and returning to the lodge in daylight and navigating the track with caution. Whilst we appreciate this will be a costly repair for the owners, if unresolved needs to be made known at the outset, prior to booking, so that people can make an informed choice. These points aside, and given the wet weather, we nonetheless made the most of our week exploring further afield knowing we were returning to the comfort and cleanliness of the lodge. We have subsequently recommended it to friends, as if these suggestions can be accommodated, it offers good accommodation in a scenic location.
Michele
Great place to stay, owners very friendly & helpful. Very relaxing stay, was everything we hoped it would be & great for the dogs as well.
A beautiful cottage, comfortable and well equipped. The views from the lounge are stunning and we loved watching the changing colours as the sunset. We had lovely stay, a real home away from home whilst work was being done on our house. There are good walks for the dog right on the doorstep and the property is well situated for you to be able to explore the wider area. We have already recommended to visiting friends & family.
Beautiful property & fantastic location! Emma & David were wonderful hosts & made every effort to make our stay a memorable experience. The Christmas decorations really made it so special too! Would love to return in the summer.
Great location for a relaxing break or as a base for trips around the region. Footpath at the back gate along the river with good walks for the dogs. Hosts were welcoming and informative. Highly recommended.
Lovely remote set up which is safe for children. Our children age 5 and 7 enjoyed the company of the hosts children and their kind and polite nature. Hosts were extremely accommodating and communication was very prompt and informative answering all our questions and needs. Accommodation had luctury end touches such as hamper with essentials on arrival including bottle of bubbly, luctury bedding and towels, tastefully decorated trough out, fully equipped laundry room are only few to mention. Host house is attached to the annexe but they gave us full privacy and if anything we have fully invaded their space by taking advantage of their generosity in giving us the full access of the gardens and land surrounding the house! Location is idyllic, peaceful but yet close to amenities and attractions if you feel up for it! There is beautiful sunset to observe from the open plan living room windows and watch the moon rise and move around the property each evening! Overall I would highly recommend this stay especially for families with young children.
Kristy
What a stunning place to stay with beautiful views! We loved sitting down in the evening and watching the stars come out. Lots of things to do nearby and we easily filled our week with fun activities for our family with two younger children 1.5 & 6. An added bonus for us were the animals all around like the cows and sheep behind the fence and the chickens kept on site, the children loved saying goodnight to them. The accommodation had everything we needed and we cooked lots of meals and the beds were very comfy. Below is where we visited whilst there Shrewsbury splash park and Sabrina boat ride Hawkstone Follies Park Flash leisure centre with water slide Park Hall Farm Powis Castle and gardens Silver Mountain Experience The owners couldnt be more helpful and answered any questions when needed. We would definitely recommend staying.
A lovely stay at a great little cottage which is peaceful and delightfully off the beaten track. David and Emma were very welcoming, there if we needed anything but gave us all the privacy we liked. Great for access to the Severn Way and Offas Dyke. Day ticket fishing in the Severn within a mile is an added bonus.
What a wonderful peaceful location and super friendly owners even though we were delayed in arriving with the owner waiting for us to meeting and greet ! Facilities were top notch, we only stayed for the weekend and all wished we could have stayed longer we will definitely have this on top of our list to return in the near future .
Georgina
Incredible location. Excellent facilities. Friendly and caring hosts. I would strongly recommend Haimwood Byetake.
A very enjoyable stay , Owners David and Emma very helpful. Fantastic views , beautiful countryside.
A lovely property in a stunning location. Quiet, safe, a mile away from the nearest road and nothing but tranquility. Our 2yr old son spent his time riding his balance bike around and rolling down the small grass bank. Our dog was also welcomed and was extremely comfortable with plenty of outdoor space. The owners live onsite and have dogs themselves. But they kept themselves out of view and their dogs were also always kept under control and out of the way, making us feel we had all the private space we needed. The property was clean and functional with lots of space and utilities. The internet is free, but it was capped while we were there. We ran out of wifi data on our last day. The other initial problem was that the huge glass frontage made the property unbearably hot when we first arrived on a sunny day. The owner quickly delivered an opening stick to get the skylights opened and also gave us a fan. The combination of which solved the issue quickly. Overall, we really liked the place and would recommend it to a family or two couples who wanted a quiet break with tons of outdoor activities available within easy reach. Shop and take aways are close too. Thank you for having us!
